ADHD Services
We offer cutting-edge assessment tools to help diagnose Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). One of the primary tools we use is the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA), a proven and objective method to evaluate attention and impulse control. Whether for children, adolescents, or adults, TOVA is a versatile tool that helps provide clarity in diagnosing ADHD.
What is TOVA?
The Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA) is a computerized assessment that helps measure key cognitive functions related to ADHD, particularly inattention and impulsivity. It provides a clear, objective picture of how an individual responds to various stimuli over a sustained period. This test is especially helpful in evaluating ADHD in children, adolescents, and young adults.
How Does TOVA Work?
TOVA is a non-invasive, standardized test that takes about 20-25 minutes to complete.
Stimulus Presentation: The individual will sit in front of a computer and respond to a series of visual or auditory stimuli by pressing a button when a specific target appears and refraining from pressing when it doesn’t.
Performance Measurement: TOVA measures both response times and errors (like hitting the button when it’s not needed or missing the target when it’s presented). These patterns can help indicate issues with sustained attention and impulse control, two core symptoms of ADHD. Unlike subjective rating scales, TOVA provides objective data that compares the individual’s performance to normative age-based standards, making it a reliable tool to help diagnose ADHD.
Why Choose TOVA for ADHD Assessment?
Accuracy and Objectivity: TOVA offers a data-driven, unbiased measurement of attention and impulsivity, reducing the reliance on behavioral observations alone. TOVA is often used in combination with clinical interviews, patient history, and other psychological assessments to provide a full picture of the individual’s cognitive functioning.
The ADHD Assessment Process at Release and RenewInitial Consultation: We begin with a comprehensive consultation where we gather information about your history, symptoms, and goals.
The TOVA test is administered in a quiet, controlled environment through telehealth or in-office, depending on your preference. Our team will analyze the results and compare them to established norms to identify patterns of inattention or impulsivity. If the results suggest ADHD, we will work with you to create a customized treatment plan, which may include medication management, therapy, or lifestyle modifications to improve focus and productivity.
